Skater Sue - Skating Memories 2009 DVD released
A big thankyou to "Skater Sue" who has once again produced a stunning DVD of the Sk8 M8s tours and outings, courses and events over 2009.
It's been Sk8school's and the Sk8 M8s busiest year with more trips and events than ever before. In August we had 3 or 4 social skates a week!
Sue's videos always manage to capture the life and fun of these events and you can check out the first part of her DVD on our Facebook Page. (See the frame on the right).
Skater or (heaven forbid) non skater - you'll love this DVD and we hope you will want to be a part of the next one!

Well done to everyone at the Ben Lund Memorial Skate - Excellent Fund Raiser
Todays fund raiser went off with out a hitch and reportedly raised £650. (Although we are awaiting official confirmation.
Well done to all the Peewees who enjoyed the powerskating lesson with us. There's a good chance of more of the same in coming months.

Sk8school's ever popular Kids Club continues for one more month, before the indoor season takes hold.
Get your Kids skating properly this Summer, with Sk8school's Kids Club. We teach your kids to skate through special skating games.
These take place every Sunday at the Turning Circle - till October.

Further details have been released about this event, scheduled for 10am September 5th.
The event is being organised by Ben's team mates "Sussex MAD" and have already secured Dan Hanson to DJ and Coast Bladers of Skate Nation fame to do a few demo's. There's also a Sk8school Dancercise demo to take part in.
Sk8school will be handling the lessons, with power skating training at 10am and open skate lessons from 11am, from Nancy, Pam and Tim Wheals. All donations will go to the Ben Lund fund raiser so come along and learn a lot! Read more....

The annual speed trials on the downs will be over this weekend and apparently even included a "night run" for qualificaiton.

Another fabulous opportunity to try a Quality Eastbourne Skate Lesson this Sunday 23rd August...
This Sunday at 11am you'll have another chance to try to improve your skills or learn from scratch with people aged 6-86 - and like you, none of them would have done it before!
Our lessons are fully structured and last over an hour so there's plenty of time to get used to the new sensation of skating and pick up lots of skills. It usually takes 15 minutes just to get used to the feel of skates the first few times which is why we focus on confidence building in those early parts of a lesson. No need to rush, take time to do it properly!
Kids learn very differently to adults and Sk8school recognises this and leads the way with Kids Club, which specialises in teaching Kids to skate through Games.
All our Sunday group sessions have high quality skate hire with full pads and helmets so you are assured of the best possible start.
If you'd like to give it a go - we'd love to see you at the Turning Circle just before 11am any Sunday during the Summer!

Sk8 n Chips will be touring Hastings tonight. Due to the extended travel we'll start a little later to allow people to gather - so the skate will kick off at 8pm.
Convoy leaves Eastbourne 7:30pm (Gather before then at Mr & Mrs T's).
Once there, we'll gather up at the Eastbourne end of Hasting seafront, by the ornamental gardens. (Behind Grosvenor Crescent). A google map to the location is here.

Sovereign Centre Drop In Skate Sessions by Sk8school
We're running our fantastic kids club on August 13th and 20th at the Sovereign Centre as part of their Kids Summer Program
The skating sessions are £2.50 an hour between 1pm-5pm, suitable for 8yrs and up.
Roller Zorbing scheduled 1st August!
Yes you read that right! First 10 people to apply will be the lucky ones (over 10's only please!).

Full details will be appearing in the 1st August newsletter, but as we're actually running the event then... You need to know now!
The Txt service will give on the day go/no go information but the plan is to try this unique little sport straight after the breakfast skate, so if you want to give it a go (and take advantage of the Sk8 M8s discounted rate!) either join the 1st August breakfast skate or meet us straight afterwards.

Condolences - Ben
Our condolences to the friends and family of Ben Lund who died on Saturday morning. A member of Sussex Mad - Pam's, Thursdays parents hockey group. The club was open to parents and older children playing hockey. It was formed with the intention to let the parents have a go at inline hockey and find out just how hard it was to skate and play hockey at the same time. Ben came along with his dad and loved it. It was also a way for kids to build relationships with their parents. Ben was and always will be our most improved player and our best player and will be sadly missed. - Pam Glinski, Eastbourne Skate School instructor and Hockey Coach

Eastbourne Skate Lessons News and Events - July
July starts with a Sk8 M8s Beach BBQ, and there are several breakfast skates (with a bonus two over the extreme weekend) and Sk8 n Chips tours to look forward too.
Coaching sessions prior to the usual Sunday morning Kids Club and Lessons prove to be a big hit - and pre-booking is essential as they are tailored to 3-6 people at a time.
Private lessons continue to be available any time through the week, with skate hire etc. if required. There are also some Sk8 Streetwise and Mastering courses available in July.
Thursday 23rd July Tour - NEW Sk8 n Chips Hastings Route.
This time the Sk8 M8s are touring Hastings for Sk8 n Chips! Meeting point in Hastings to be confirmed but likely the Eastbourne end of the seafront by the Gardens. Skate leaves at 7:45 - so meet up at 7:30. If you're wondering what its all about - check out the Pictures from the Bexhill tour on WhealsON and Facebook (become a fan for full access).
New Classes now running - and some more new skate lessons coming soon!
The regular coaching classes will be on tomorrow morning for up to 6 people - 9:45-10:45. Register with Tim to reserve your place.
A New Class and social skating opportunity will soon be available - Pam will be starting a Roller Buggy Babies class - teaching you how to handle a push chair whilst skating. Thursday 9th July Tour - Sk8 n Chips BEXHILL Route.
This time the Sk8 M8s are taking the Sk8 n Chips to Bexhill, meeting at the Hastings end of Bexhill seafront at the bottom of the hill. Skate leaves at 7:45 - so meet up at 7:30. This tour will cover the seafront and the park + a few other nice sights in between and as a bonus - the Surface is perfect! If we don't make it due to the weather we'll try the same route on the 23rd July.

We met at the Turning circle for about 8:45am, ready for prompt departure at 9am. No surprises with the route - straight along the prom to the Holywell Cafe. As usual a very relaxed and gentle skate, with attendees ranging for 1 to 80 in age. (With the younger ones in push chairs!) See the WhealsON and Facebook pages (become a fan for full access).

Sk8school (and SkateInstructor.com) London Skate Lessons andsessions schedule
Every Sunday, at 1pm, SkateInstructor.com (the London branch of Sk8school) runs a beginner skating session where you can learn to skate forwards and stop safely. Although we charge £15 for this 1 hour session you can attend for FREE if you have bought your skates from Club Blue Room.
Simply turn up at The Royal Albert Memorial and have some fun as you take your first steps into the skating world! The follow-on session Every Sunday, at 2:30pm, we run a 1 hour follow-on session that leads on from our Sunday Beginners session. Whilst this is intended to teach you turns and how to get on-and-off pavements, it can also be used as a further hour for learning the skills from the Sunday Beginners session if you are struggling (we physically split the group if this is necessary). If you don't want to do this session on the same day you can return whenever you like. This hour costs £15 and takes place at The Royal Albert Memorial
Beginners starting and stopping drop in session
Pretty much everyone feels nervous and
apprehensive when they first put on a pair of Rollerblade's. We
specialise in putting you at ease and getting you skating quickly as
well as having loads of fun at the same time!
If you are a
beginner and can't stand up on your skates yet, if you can't stop, or
if you are a more advanced skater and want to learn some cool stuff,
you have come to the right place to learn.
The sessions take place at The Royal Albert Memorial each Sunday at 1pm and cost just £15 per person.
