Sk8 M8's - Mobile phone event reminders

Thanks for all the great feedback about this new service, which has now gone live. About 100 of you receive roughly 4 txt's a month from our event reminder service. This covers such outings as Breakfast skates, Sk8 n chips night skates, London and Paris trips, Beach BBQ's and Treasure hunts. If you know someone who might benefit from this service just get them to txt their name and "JOIN" to 07940773295.

Of course our Facebook group and club, RSS feed and Newsletter will no doubt be of equal interest to them!

Breakfast skate on Radio 5 - 2nd August

All of August's Breakfast Skates promise to be unusual!

The August 2nd Breakfast skate promises to be something different! If all goes well the Presenter of the Weekend Breakfast Show for Radio 5 will be attending the skate and doing a Live slot with us sometime between 8:30 and 9:00 at the Turning Circle. If you'd like to see how a radio programme is made, or perhaps be interviewed, then turn up a little earlier than usual for the August 2nd Breakfast skate. Otherwise we plan to run the skate as per usual - IE. prompt departure at 9am

Airbourne skate lessons (17th Aug) and Breakfast Skate (16th Aug).

Good news and bad news, there will be no lessons or kids club on Airbourne Sunday. But on the bright side the breakfast skate will run BUT with a different route.

Yes you read that right... A DIFFERENT ROUTE!

As the seafront from the pier will be fenced off, we will head the other way, towards the Marina.

It's Eastbourne, but not as we know it!

So all you slow to wake up people that meet us by starting half way and heading to the turning circle, will actually have to get up early enough to begin at 9am, because we won't be heading towards you! The route will gently meander so there will be no chance of intercepting us! Start at 9am or miss out!

(That means skates on and ready to roll at 9am! not turn up at 9am, find money for carpark, decide what socks go with which skate etc. faff, dither, faff!)
There are some quite interesting areas, features and scupture scattered around the Marina and most people in Eastbourne don't even know it exists... Venture out on the breakfast skate and open your eyes to something new!

GoodWood

Ready for a Marathon, or a half Marathon or just a spin somewhere different?

Want to raise some money for charity?

Check this out! GoodWood Roller Marathon - this is fast becoming a major skate event each year and every skater should visit it at least once!

Eastbourne Extreme Review

We came, we saw, we taught, we had a slight bump at the roller disco! Read the reviews on the WhealsON blog! (July section).

Not only that but last months RSS feeds and WhealsON blog covered breakfast skates, Sk8 n Chips and what happened when a few Sk8 M8's met up on Bexhills seafront! Go and have a look! If you subscribe to the RSS feed you won't miss a thing. If you like the look of what the Sk8 M8's get up to - just send your name and JOIN in a txt to 07940773295 and you'll get timely reminders on your phone.

Skate Parties

We're still getting plenty of requests for Skate Parties and other special functions ! Keep them coming! If you'd like to know more give us a call! These can run at pretty much any time and place, indoor and out and will certainly be an event to remember. So if you'd like to book "something different" we'd love to hear from you.

If you need to get some idea of what we do, come and take a look at the Kids Club, on every Sunday at the Turning Circle 11am (except Airbourne week).

Wednesday Night London Skate

We are not having much luck getting this together! It either rains, or we think its going to rain, or our guides are busy, or we're on Holiday...

Probably the next attempt will be 13th August - bound to be lucky then! As usual we'll do the Txt alert so you'll know to be ready!

Marks London courses and news!

Mark is very busy arranging things in London - and further afield - have a look at this huge selection.

Paris Weekend! 24th - 26th October 2008 (Eurostart tickets can now be purchased).

Following three years of successful skate trips to Paris, 2008 will see Skateinstructor.com and Skatefresh.com going to Paris to skate the famous Friday night Pari-Roller street skate...

Health benefits of inline skating

Today we are more health conscious than ever before and along with that we are more knowledgeable about our health...

Sunday Beginners Starting and Stopping

Every Sunday, at 1pm, skateinstructor.com runs a beginner skating session where you can learn to skate forwards and stop safely....

You've never skated before, or feeling rusty with the basics? This is the course for you!

Almost everyone feels nervous and apprehensive when they first put on a pair of Rollerblade's. We specialise in putting you at ease and getting you skating quickly as well as having loads of fun at the same time...

Meet Mark Davies!

We've decided to run a regular column where we will get to meet an ICP qualified instructor, some of whom will be regular faces in and around Hyde Park and on the London skate scene.

First up we interview our very own Mark Davies, founder and director...

ICP Level 1 Skate Instructor Certification

This level is the first certification for new instructors and teaches you the basics of teaching using the beginner skills syllabus.

The course consists of two components...

Meanwhile back in Eastbourne...

Tim Wheals longest serving instructor?

Well after a little research it appears that Sk8school has Englands longest serving current ICP instructor! I was one on 25 instructors to qualify in the first IISA/ICP course back in 1995 and i've been active and insured constantly all that time.

So unless anyone out there knows different - I'm England's longest serving ICP instructor!

Courses and Classes

We need to run several courses as many of you have been asking about them. As a reminder they are:

Please email Tim if you are interested in any of these - once I have 5+ names for any of them I'll run it on the first convenient Saturday (straight after a breakfast skate). So the more of you book, the sooner you'll get your desired course(s).

Failing that - from October, we'll be going indoors and will be running practise sessions, beginners classes and kids club EVERY week, with half day intensives every month.

Beach BBQ

Time for another one of these! We'll do the Sk8 M8's TXT event to co-ordinate as soon as the weather forecast predicts good weather and NO WIND. Notice will be shortish (24 hours). HINT - it's a BBQ, bring your own food and eat it there - don't eat dinner and then turn up! This will most likely be around 7:30pm at the turning circle.

Seperate BBQ for Vegetarians if REQUESTED.

The coals usually stay hot for about 40-45 minutes of cooking and we light up at 7:30 on the dot...

Perhaps this time we'll do a little better on the coke fountain, that was more of a dribble! (Check the June WhealsON blog for the video!)
