Welcome back!
Did you manage to get any skating in during the turkey season? Or we're you "stuffed" If you're looking forward to donning your rolling stock for an outing, there's probably no better opportunity than with Sk8school at our open skate. We look forward to meeting customers old and new! Bring your kids and your friends kids - we'll wear them out for you in the kids club!
Boxing day skate
On Boxing day we were hoping to meet up with the main contingent of breakfast skaters and watch the mad people take the traditional festive plunge into the sea! Nut's but they do it every year for charity! The weather was fabulous, reaching 10C - but very wet underfoot which of course meant no skating. Still lots of people turned out to dance and cheer them on as you can see below!
4000 years of Skating
Well it appears there's potentially an even older account of skating (on bone skates) than the Chinese which I thought was the oldest, being about 1700 years ago (but that was inline not ice). Read the BBC news article here to find out all about it.
Holiday on ICE - Brighton
It's that time of year again! The rink has come to Brighton and the ICE is open to the public till the 5th January. You'll need to book in advance to do it - but its really worthwhile. Trust us, your inline skills will stand you in good stead. Take your inline padding and wrist guards, hire their boots and be the best on the ice, while the rest of the untrained public flounder around like puppets with the strings cut!
If you've not seen the show it's really worth the trip - again you need to book early, here's the phone number: 01273 292695 Click here for information on the show.
January open skate and Kids Club Sunday 13th January - Shinewater 10am
The ever popular 2 hour open skate. The first hour has the FREE introductory lesson and stopping clinics, so if you're just starting off with a new pair of Christmas presents or want to hone the “most important" skill. (Stopping) This is the ideal practise session for you. All of the instructors will be teaching private lessons on the day and at the time of writing this half their teaching slots are already booked. So if you want an hour or half hour with an instructor on that day, we'd advise you book it pronto! If you want to just come along and practise you'll be better off aiming for around 10:45, when most of the beginners have been worn out and there's a bit of space for people who know what they are doing. Entry is just £3 - Free to Christmas present skaters with vouchers from the shops!
The 13th January kids club and lessons start at 10am, if you don't know where Shinewater sports centre is, click here!
The 20th January kids club and shop lessons start at 12midday.
Half day intensive courses on 20th January
Again at Shinewater, but starting at 9am, these last till 12midday, anyone doing the half day intensives can have the practise hour for free. (Till 1pm) The courses we'll be covering on Sunday January 20th are:
Beginners introduction, half day intensive. (one instructor)
Mastering backwards half day intensive. (one instructor)
There will only be 20 people in the hall for the half day intensives and at the moment most of these 20 are in the backwards class. There are only a few places left and the course details are on the website. If you're thinking you want one of those few remaining places, you are strongly advised to book before January 13th when the open skate will probably see all places for all 3 months sold out!
Marks half day intensives
Mark and Matt will also be working out of Shinewater on January 20th, running Beginner-Intermediate classes and Intermediate-Advanced classes from 1pm-4pm. There are only 5 places with Matt and 5 places with Mark so book early to avoid disappointment!
Check www.london.sk8school.co.uk for all the latest details. For more details contact Mark 07753489669 or see the website.
Half day intensives in February and March
If you didn't manage to get on the beginners course on the 20th There is another 2 opportunities on February 17th and March 16th both in the morning and afternoon. (But note – January 13th open skate is expected to fill all bookings so book before then!)
Additionally we are hosting:
February 17th – 10 ways to stop, the most popular course last year
March 16th - All the big turns and in the afternoon the highly anticipated (and very scary) "Flow grace and tricks" course, which currently only has 3 people booked. I am deliberately billing this class as "very hard work" and aiming it at "experts" because the things we'll be covering are right at the top of the skating tree and you'll need to be competent in all 3 "masters" classes before even considering this one! I seriously don't expect to have more than 5 people in this one!
Private lessons always available
Many thanks to all of you that have bought vouchers for lessons, classes and courses as presents! Don't forget that we will teach any time outside, but if you would prefer the comfort of an indoor location we have several locations available and it only adds between £8-£15 for your lesson. (Depending on whether you need an Expert or Beginner lesson - they use different amounts of space).
The Shops (Eastbourne)
Both the shops have sales on! Go see!
Loco
LocoSkates
