Mastering 10 ways to Stop on Skates
Saturday May 24th will be the date for everyone to have another chance at learning a stopping technique for every occasion. The Eastbourne Sk8School Skate Lesson "Mastering 10 ways to stop" is a half day intensive course. It starts by reviewing the heel brake stop, then progresses through several drills and exercises to introduce you to the amazing double edged stops - jump stop, stamp stop and hockey stop. On the way you'll see methods of stopping for use on hills, in crowds, on the spot, controlling your speed and more! Most importantly, on completion of this course you'll have a number of skate stopping techniques that you are comfortable with and will know which to use in which situation - and which to avoid!Attendees should be able to heel brake stop to some degree and be relatively comfortable with Stride 2. All our instructors will be happy to ensure you "make the grade" before the course with a few private lessons if required.
Cost is £40 per person and pre-booking your place is essential. The class starts at 11am at the Turning Circle. Payment in advance payable to Tim Wheals, 32 Lawns Avenue, Eastbourne, East Sussex. 15 people maximum, first come first served! Given that the class starts at 11 - you should be back in time from the breakfast skate if you want to do that for a warm up! (Certainly that's what Tim will be doing!)
Wheals On!
The WHEALS ON! Blog has rapidly risen through the ranks to become one of the most popular pages of our site. We will continue to review our lessons and events on this page, with the odd announcement and news item. As always If you don't want to miss anything - get theRSS feed and Newsletter!Want to see an example? Here is the review of the last wonderful Sk8 M8 breakfast skate.
As you know we're experimenting with several "interactive" mediums at the moment to see which ones you like most. Have a look at the RSS feeds and Face book club as well!
Kids Club and Beginners Lessons
Kids Club is working well at the TURNING CIRCLE, every Sunday at 11am. Weather permitting. We fully expect the Kids Club to grow and expect Laura to be back in the driving seat, once her knee heals up from a slight snowboarding accident! Till then Tim will generally keep your kids occupied and Rebecca or Marie will hold the main Eastbourne skate lessons. The Kids Club is the ideal way to get children skating as we have special games that get kids learning to skate, without even realising that they are picking up the new skills!
Along side the Kids Club we will resume our regular group lessons and shop intro's 11am Sunday mornings, also at the TURNING CIRCLE.
Private Eastbourne Skate Lessons will of course be available anytime.
Every month (and more frequently if demand dictates) we will run our half-day intensive courses on Mastering stopping, turning, backwards, street and for the brave "flow grace and tricks".
Social Breakfast Skates and Night Skates
The Breakfast Skates and Skate n Chips night skate sessions are now running from the Turning circle (some of you will have already have noticed the Sk8 M8's page on the website). The night skates (the Skate n chips) will most likley start this month! Also keep an eye on the Sk8 M8's page for the treasure hunt...
Subscribe to the RSS feed and keep an eye on the Sk8 M8's page.
The Breakfast skates and Sk8 n Chips start at the Turning Circle at 9am and 7:45pm respectively.
Next Breakfast Skates: 10th May and 24th May
Next Skate n Chips: 14th May and 29th May
Paris Skate
Our colleagues in SkateInstructor.com and SkateFresh are organising a trip to Paris to include skating in the Friday night Paris skate. Lessons if you want them and various tours. Totally fantastic skating fun! See here for details or contact Tim. The trip is scheduled for May 9th SO BOOK NOW TO DO IT!Congratulations Sk8 Streetwise
Well done to Lorna, Suzi, Debbie, Lisa, Mark and Ivor who completed the Sk8 Streetwise!
Many thanks for the customer comment:
"Just a quick note to say thanks for Saturday's lesson - I will definately be practising like mad to perfect my style! Everything taught was so relevant - I used all of it to get home, so thank you again."
No problem - that's what we're here for! Remember anyone who's done the Sk8 Streetwise, is welcome to attend again for free. The next half day intensive will be "Mastering 10 ways to stop" so I hope to see many of you sign up for that one!
For those of you that wondered what happened on the sponsored skate
- we inspite of the threatening weather (that never really rained) it
did go ahead and the Mayor turned up to start us on our way. Carol
managed to raise quite a few hundred pounds from this venture alone,
which
gets her well on her way. In fact she has over £800 ! Many thanks to
all the helpers, walkers and supporters - check the
WhealsOn blog for pictures!
Mark and Matt's London Skate Lessons Program
There are only a few days left to book onto the skateinstructor.com trip to Paris. Leaving on Friday, 9th May, a group of people are off to enjoy the Pari-Roller and a guided skate around the beautifully smooth streets of the French capital. There are still a few places available so come along to find out why skaters complain about the state of the roads in the UK!The Sunday Beginners lesson will be moving from 1pm to 12pm from Sunday 4th May. We've also added the Sunday Beginners Follow-On course which runs a little after this course and teaches the next few skills to help you get skating. It costs just £20 for the hour long session and, like the Sunday Beginners lesson, is a drop-in course: just turn up on the day with your skates, knee, wrist, and elbow pads, and your helmet.
