Sk8 M8s and Sk8school Christmas Party
With the fabulous atmosphere of the open skates and Kids Club being such a crowd pleaser, we've succumbed to popular demand and will throw a Christmas Party.
We've already hired the DJ and Shinewater hall, so don't let us down - buy a ticket - we need to sellout just to break even!
A £2 ticket buys you 3 hours of Christmas skating, top tunes and entertainment! If you think Kids Club with adults allowed to join in, with line dancing and its a knockout you won't be far wrong! Note this will NOT be a racing roller disco - this is a very different format!
Lets just say that the teenager to late 20's age group will likely be in the minority!
If you want a taster of what you are in for - why not visit our free open skate, any Sunday at 11am.
The Christmas Party DJ will be none other than Graham, that many of you will fondly remember from the early years of the skate festival, when it was all about being a skate festival and somewhat less focused on all things extreme!
Graham is the "inventor" of skate limbo in Eastbourne and is very experienced in the art of entertaining skaters of all ages! This will be a highly entertaining event not to be missed - bring your dance skates - not your racing ones!
Tickets will be limited to 50 or 60 just to cover costs - first come first served. The party starts at Shinewater December 21 at 10am and finishes at 1pm, the music will begin as soon as Graham is set up! Tickets will be available at all our events leading up to the day itself. But tickets will not be available on the door.
Early birds on the day will be able to ask the Sk8school instructors for tips and lessons, which we'll be running for the first half hour, at no extra charge! There's even rumour of mince pies and sweets and a special dance teach in...
Well worth £2 then!
Looking forward to seeing you all there.
Quiet skate bookings
The 10am Sunday quiet skates have sold out every month, so we must have got it right! December is going to be cut short due to Christmas and the above mentioned party and of course January will be cut short due to new year so we've combined all of the two months possible dates into one 5 week session covering both months. Booking is now open for the December(7th,14th)/January(11th,18th,25th) quiet skate - get your place reserved now!
Total cost £15 for 5 weeks skating! (2hrs including FREE open skate!)

Skate Lessons
We are continuing with our group beginner skate lessons every week - Sunday 10am. Please continue to book in ahead as it helps us keep numbers realistic!

Meanwhile the mastering skating lessons are well attended. We've just covered stopping and this course will be repeated late January, so if you want to stop as well as Mike in the picture... put you're name down! We run these half day intensive classes once a month, covering the 3 most useful skill sets. Mastering Stopping, Mastering Turns and Edges and Mastering Backwards. Check the lesson page on the website for details!
Novembers Mastering class is Turns and Edges, without which you are limited to beginner and intermediate moves - take a mastering class - become a master of flowing turns!
And... check out another article in the newsletter - the theory lesson is in November and it's FREE! Master the theory of skating and know all the technical jargon, maintenance, buying and fitting tips, choosing the best equipment for you and save money in the skate shops, plus so much more!
Also if you are in London, Mark is running a Skate Boot Camp, check out www.skateinstructor.com
for details. Mark will also be running Mastering courses (or
equivalent) on the same dates as the mastering courses Sk8school will
be running in Eastbourne.
Free open skate a great success!
It looks like our experimental free open skate has been a great success, attracting new skaters to SK8 M8s events and spreading the word. Looks like its here to stay through to April. Thanks to everyone attending for keeping its practice and pleasure ethos intact so we don't accidentally turn it into a racer-boy roller disco!

If any one is interested in more dancing aspects of skating - this would be the session to turn up to and join in with the "Calamity Janes". We are hoping to show a educational dance video at one of these sessions soon (hopefully Pam or Laura can find a copy of the DVD!).
For those that have not tried it... this session is every Sunday 11am at Shinewater.
Ice skating in December
We were not sure whether this was going to be in January or December, but it now looks almost certain to be late December. This will be in Brighton - using the Holiday on Ice; rink. We plan to use the train if numbers are small or a coach for larger numbers. If you want a "cunning plan" bring you skating pads! Ice can be just as hard as concrete! The most likely day is a Saturday or possibly a Monday evening.
Make sure you sign up to indicate you're interest or you won't be notified of the date and time etc.
Knockhatch skiing or Revolution climbing this month?
Well the survey said... More people were interested in climbing so we've organised that instead. Those that put your name down will be making their way over to Evolution on Saturday morning 8th November for "as long as you want" climbing fun for £9 (which translates to about an hour and a half for most people - after which time your fingers give up!). The climbing facility at Evolution is superb and for those that know the terms, is called (I believe) "bouldering" IE no ropes!
Photos will be in Decembers issue so the less adventurous can see what you missed!
Santa skate
Next months out and about event is the London Santa skate. If you have registered for this you will be receiving the details shortly.

Skate Theory class - FREE!
It's that time of year when you are likely to visit a skate shop. This is the time to take advantage of Eastbourne's most experienced and knowledgeable skaters and go to the Sk8school skate theory class. You will save huge sums at skate shops just by doing this class! Know what makes the biggest difference to your skating and why. Know how to improve any element of your favorite sport and what gives the best bang for your buck. And what's a waste of money! Its a half day intensive course and it ensures you know as much as the sales guy. Become an expert over night!
This year we are offering this course FREE! We will be running this on Monday evening 17th November at the Community Wise Centre, Motcombe Eastbourne. Although it is free, attendance should be booked in advance so that we know we have the right size room, with the right number of seats! This course is suitable for those responsible for buying the skates or who already own a pair or two and want to know more. (Probably not suitable for children under 9 it's a sit down class about skating, buying, fitting, maintenance, chassis choice and wheel selection after all!)
Check out the information on the Sk8school Theory Lessons here.
Everyone on our Sk8school group and Sk8school club on Facebook already knows about this of course!

Answers to the picture competition
1. Treasure Hunt
- Right at the end while the scores were being totted up at the Bexhill
Treasure Hunt, Nancy got the lollipops out! Remember there will be
another treasure hunt in April/May - probably in Eastbourne this time.
Who will get the trophy this time?
2. London Skate
- "video Sue" managed to wear more tea than she drank, within minutes
of our London skate adventure starting. We'll be doing another one -
and August is a great time for it as during Airbourne we know most of
the seafront will be closed...
3. Berlin Marathon
- One of our instructors has Marathon fever! Rebecca managed to get a
medal for completing the Berlin Marathon in September. She's certainly
got the bug and will be doing a few more in 2009!
4. Breakfast Skate Marina Route
- Just for a change we tried a different route
for the Breakfast skate, which actually worked quite well. There are a
number of sights around the marina with a little artist merit! So the
route toured some of the best bits after breakfast!
5. Breakfast Skate Ice Cream mess
- We've had quite an age range on our Breakfast skates over the months.
But they've always been enjoyed by participants of any age - for a
variety of reasons!
6. Breakfast Skate Fogies wrong socks
- the Quad God, pretty much always leaves his mark on every trip we
run. This particular breakfast skate - a Saturday of course... well say
no more!
7. Power slide demo at the HDI stopping course - Sk8school Instructor Tim Wheals, demo's the powerslide on Shinewaters aptly named perfect floor.
8. ESK Plants Skate
- After Extreme we taught at another venue - the ESK Plants carpark! A
superb little event that introduced many new people to Sk8school. We
brought our skate hire, pads and sound system down to ESK and spent the
day introducing shoppers to the wonders of skating!
9. Fall of the Quad God - The most downloaded video we host and by far the funniest! Watch and learn!
10. Roly's end!
- One of our larger Breakfast skates had a temporary halt, while Roly
had an emergency wheel change! However we still all made it for
breakfast and a good time was had by all!
