Indoor Courses

Several half day intensive courses are now taking bookings for the indoor season. People are already booking these up and there are limited spaces (15) so book now to avoid disappointment! Each course is 3 hours long and there is ONE a month. The idea being that they are easier for customers to attend, as it's only one afternoon to arrange. The courses will cover the specified topics in depth and will take you from intermediate level to Master.

Course

Date

Mastering Stopping (10 ways to stop in 3 hours)

October 19th

Mastering Turns (All the big turns and edge drills)

November 9th

Mastering Backwards (From beginner motion to backward crossover)

December 7th

Each course costs £40 and if you want all 3 we'll discount it to £100.

Please ensure you can at least skate to beginner/intermediate level to get the most out of these courses. (Stop to some degree and perform some level of parallel turn). Those thinking of tackling backwards would also benefit from the turns course as there is quite a bit of edge control required.

If you want further information about the content of any of these courses please refer to the lessons page of the website. (or speak to Tim). At the time of writing about 30% of all of the places available had been booked and paid for, so don't wait! The stopping course is (perhaps ironically) always the first to go!

Last breakfast skate review

We suspect that we've just run the Sk8 M8s last breakfast skate of 2008, shame!

It was a good turn out and great weather, check out the review on the WhealsON blog. Once again the Sk8 M8's txt service showed its worth, letting everyone know in good time about the opportunity to get skates on! If you'd like to join the 105 people getting the SK8 M8s event txt's just send your name and JOIN to 07940773295 and roughly once a week you'll get a txt alerting you to the latest event. Usually this goes out about 1 or 2 days before, so you'll be reminded and have time to do something about it!

Treasure hunt review

Many thanks to John, Leslie and Teresa, who all did such a wonderful job creating the Sk8 M8s end of outdoor season treasure hunt. Some of the teams taking part even had K9 assistance!

(See picture of Tom and Jess) Congratulations to Harry, Jackson and Richard who won it and will be defending the Trophy in April or May 2009.

Read the full review on the WhealsON blog. The start of outdoor season treasure hunt is rumoured to be in Eastbourne this time (rather than Bexhill) so we are looking forward to some stiff competition for the reigning champs from Ninfield! Good Luck!

Sk8 M8s trips coming up

So much to do and so little time... Just some of the opportunities lined up for the next few months...

Ice Skating in Brighton

Holiday on Ice show in Brighton

Dry Slope skiing at Knockhatch

Climbing at Evolution indoor climbing centre (Crowborough)

and ... an attempt at the Record for the biggest London skate - 23rd November, so put that in your diary now!

As noted earlier - the Sk8 M8's page has all the "countdown" timers for these events (or the booking deadlines for them). Don't dither too long if any of these events interest you!

For example the ICE skating trips are coming up for their registration deadline in 9 days time (unless we can convince the "Holiday on Ice team" to do a special extension for us!

There are a lot of events and deadlines to keep track of over the next few months - keep an eye on the website which will have a complete lists of event countdown timers to make it easy for you! This can be found here (Click).

Loco Sales

The Brand new state of the art LocoSkates website should be live by the time you are reading this (if not, it will be live very shortly). There is much more focus on Recreational skating on the new site. Check it out at LocoSkates.com or jump straight to the recreational part of the site by going to LocoFitnessSkates.co.uk. Loco will also be running a SALE throughout October. At the moment it's 10% off skates, 30% off clothes! Look out for this, or similar sale offers throughout October!

RE-AL Sales

10% on everything. Yes you read that right ! 10% of everything!

So it looks like the idea time to go and visit the skate shops!

Skate Dance Vids!

Want some inspiration? Mike (of London) pointed out this site in France! Check out the videos if you've got broadband! Inline Artistic Dance Videos (Click)

Just maybe we'll cover some of these moves in the Flow Grace and Tricks course in March?

New Instructor?

Good Luck to Nancy Scott, who after many Sk8school classes and the some pretty intense Sk8 M8 attendance (Picture from last Breakfast Skate) has finally decided to take the plunge and sit the instructors exam this October. We are confident that Sk8school will be able to welcome another instructor to its ranks soon!

Nancy intends to focus on Bexhill and Eastbourne, which will further increase Sk8schools cover of Sussex.

Good Luck Nancy!
